Hosted by philosopher and educator Dr. Laurance Splitter, the podcast draws on philosophy and its associated questions and ideas, as a lens for exploring a broad range of social, ethical and cultural issues. In the tradition of Socrates, Laurance poses puzzling questions and scenarios, and suggests ways of responding to them. He attempts to model genuine inquiry by seeking answers, while being open to rethinking issues, and admitting when answers seem elusive. We can aim to find the truth while being extremely cautious about proclaiming that we have found it.

Laurance Splitter D.Phil obtained First Class honours in philosophy and mathematics at Monash University (Melbourne Australia) , before being awarded a Rhodes scholarship which took him to Oxford where he completed Masters and Doctorate degrees in philosophy.
After lecturing in philosophy for several years, his intellectual focus shifted with his discovery of “Philosophy for Children”, a program devised in the USA, which he introduced to Australian schools, teachers and students (primary and secondary).
For more than 40 years Laurance has been a leading international figure in promoting philosophical dialogue and inquiry in schools, publishing numerous articles, book chapters and several books, the most recent of which is Identity, Reasonableness, and Being ‘One Among Others: Dialogue, Community, Education (Springer, 2023).
In his writing and teaching, Laurance has always been committed to conveying the importance of philosophical concepts and ideas in language which is generally accessible. The Rest is Uncertain podcast series continues this commitment.
